India Rising?
India's economy is developing and how. The Sensex rises 20,000 points, the rupee becomes stronger against the USD, etc.
Another thing is developing rapidly - our indifference as a society to events which go completely against the basic fabric of being humans. Events which take away all meaning from word 'civilised'.
We feel vindicated after the verdict in the Priyadarshini Matoo case, but does that put a check on the rapes and murders being committed? Before we can bat an eyelid, we hear about the gruesome rape and murder of the Wipro employee. Of course, there are several others which we don't hear about.
But what amazes me is the kind of reaction to the Tehelka expose on the Gujarat riots. Is it so easy to forget the image of 'people' slitting open a pregnant woman's belly to 'show them what they are all about'?
Can we actually call these people human beings? Can human beings actually be a part of, let alone be proud of such a genocide? Have we as a society forgotten the basic meaning of civilization?
Why is this becoming 'just another story' that was aired on some channels and then shelved into the channel archives? Why is it that the only reaction to this is Tehelka being accused by the Congress and the BJP both for being stooges of the other?! Why is it that the people leading our country, have not even made a single statement, forget about taking action against these murderers?
And the icing on the cake, the people of the state in question... why are they not revolting against the men who did this to them? How can they be so unanimous in their silence on the issue? As if this apathy isn't enough, popularity levels of the man behind the Gujarat genocide and satisfaction levels with his government is still high.
Is it so easy to shrug off things and carry on with life like nothing happened?

If you notice, we get to hear about such rapes mostly if the victim is killed. May be because of societal pressures. And the criminals would have noticed the same too! I wonder how many such crimes happen without getting anyone's attention! Bad!
Communal violence is a mystery to me - It doesn't give anyone any benefits, but it still happens! The ability of a human to gruesomely kill someone is more understandable if it is done by a person. We might label them psychopaths or something, but it is understandable. But doing it en masse, for "reliegious" reasons makes no sense. It doesn't help the killers in anyway! May be ppl indulge in that just to satisfy their dark side but not with any other motive. What could be the motive behind such acts?
